from this picture we can see that Fortnite is very gender equal by making both male and female characters, but there has been some characteristics added to the female characters to make them appeal to make players such as the cleavage being shown by one of the female characters.

in the game there are no stereotypes other than a Africa american character with aAfro which could be classed as a stereotypical remark.

task 4 Merit

PEGI is the British age rating company they used to determine the age rating of fortnite. Fortnites age rating that has been given by PEGI is 12 which means you have to be a minimum age of 12 to play and buy the game,  they have given Fortnite this age rating because it has violence in it and guns.

 

The PEGI age labels 

PEGI 3

The content of games with a PEGI 3 rating is considered suitable for all age groups. The game should not contain any sounds or pictures that may scare children. child friendly  form of violence is acceptable. No bad language should be heard.

PEGI 7

Game content with scenes or sounds that can be seen as scary to younger children should be in PEGI 7. Very mild forms of violence are acceptable for a game with a PEGI 7 rating.

PEGI 12

games that show violence of a slightly more graphic tone towards made-up  characters or non-realistic violence towards human-like characters would fall in this category. sexual posturing can be present, while any bad language in this category must be mild.

PEGI 16

This rating is put on games once the violence or sexual activity reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. The use of bad language in games rating can be more extreme.

PEGI 18

The adult classification is put on a game when the amount of violence gets to the point  where it shows gross violence, motiveless killing, or violence towards civilians/defenceless characters. normalising the use of illegal drugs.


The age rating licked to the product might effect the product by making it not be in the age range that the game developers want for example they may want it to be a 7+ so the game can be bought and played by a wider group of people.
they may have changed how gory the game is to lower the age rating to better fit their target audience, they may have also made the game look less realistic so they can lower the PEGI rating.
Fortnite was issued the rating PEGI 12 because it has violence in it but its not to the point where it can be classed as realistic.
